How we protect and handle your data

Information We Collect

We collect information that you provide directly to us and data that is automatically generated through your use of our services.

• Email address for account creation and authentication • Username for account identification • Securely hashed passwords (never stored in plain text) • IP address for security and service improvement purposes
• Translation history and language learning patterns • Flashcard review history and spaced repetition progress • Reading habits and book interaction data • Study session analytics and performance metrics

How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information to provide, maintain, and improve our services while delivering a personalized learning experience.

Your usage data helps us understand how users interact with our platform, allowing us to optimize features, fix bugs, and develop new functionality that better serves our community.

We use your learning data to train our proprietary machine learning models, enabling us to deliver customized spaced repetition schedules, adaptive difficulty adjustment, and personalized content recommendations that enhance your learning outcomes.

Data Storage and Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data. All sensitive information is encrypted, and we regularly review our security practices to ensure your data remains safe.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for their marketing purposes. Your data is used exclusively to improve our services and your learning experience.

File Handling and Storage

Your privacy extends to the content you read and study with our platform.

You can upload your own books (EPUB format, up to 50MB per book) which are securely stored in our cloud infrastructure to enable cross-device synchronization. Your uploaded books are stored for the purpose of syncing your library and reading progress across your devices. You maintain full control and can delete your uploaded books at any time from your library.

To show how hard a book you upload is, its text is sent to our server once and analysed there. We keep only a statistical summary of it (the words it uses and how often, the length of its sentences), never the text itself, and nothing that says who sent it.

Books from our public domain catalog are stored in our systems for all users to access. We track your reading progress and preferences for these books to enable cross-device sync and provide personalized recommendations, but we do not share which specific books you are reading with third parties.

When you remove a book from your library, all associated data including the book file (for uploaded books), reading progress, and metadata are permanently deleted from our servers. For local offline access, books are cached on your device using browser storage (IndexedDB), which you can clear at any time through your browser settings.

Plans and Payments

MnemoRead has a free plan with a daily allowance, and a paid Reader plan that removes the limits.

Payment Processing

Payments are handled by Polar Software Inc., which acts as the merchant of record for the Reader plan. Polar collects and processes your payment details, issues your invoice and handles VAT; we never see or store your card information. We store only what we need to give you the plan you paid for: your plan, its status, its expiry date and the identifiers Polar uses for your account. Past Ko-fi donations were processed by Ko-fi under the same principle.

Billing Data Retention

We retain your plan history and the contact details attached to it. You may request deletion at any time by contacting us. Please note that we may need to retain certain records for legal and accounting purposes.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or applicable laws. We will notify users of any material changes through our service or via email.

If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy or our data practices, please contact us through our support channels.
