La Peste is an intermediate read in French. Its sentences are of moderate length and very little of the text is dialogue, since it is told as a sober, documentary-style chronicle of an epidemic in an Algerian city, so the reader follows long stretches of narration and reflection. The vocabulary is mostly common, and the words to learn are mostly those of the epidemic (quarantine, serum, scourge) and of the administrative life of the town.

MnemoRead measured this book from its full text: how many of the language's most common words you need to follow it, and how long its sentences are.
