This is a beginner-level book to read in French, relative to our library. The sentences are of moderate length and the French is plain, but the whole novel is one man's confession to a stranger in an Amsterdam bar, so there is almost no dialogue to break it up. The harder words are abstract and moral (innocence, confession, punishment, generosity), so it suits a reader who is ready for ideas more than for plot.
MnemoRead measured this book from its full text: how many of the language's most common words you need to follow it, and how long its sentences are.
